(Moormann) Berge

Since 1982, the self-taught Nils Holger Moormann has been producing and distributing the drafts of what are mostly young, unknown designers. He is one of the protagonists of new German design. Following his key ideas of simplicity, intelligence, and innovation, the products are characterised mostly by inventions, precise detailed solutions, and a reduced language of form.

Nils Holger Moormann has now opened a highly unconventional little hostel of his own. In a combination of styles typical for him consisting of reduction, rustic feel, and irony, the "berge" is no hotel. There is no fixed reception area, the guest receives information and the flat key from a box and can "move in".

The clay construction work was performed by Claytec partner Larry Weiss who lives in the neighbourhood, whose work is just as imaginative as it is exact. The drywall consists mostly of clay panels; the interior plaster is made mostly of fine clay finishing plaster. Overall, the interior fittings feature warm brown tones over large surfaces next to surfaces in pure Clayfix white.
